NDIS Therapeutic Supports
An hour a week with a therapist only goes so far. What happens in between sessions, whether a strategy actually gets practised in daily life, often decides whether therapy leads to real, lasting change.
A note on scope: Aussie Bridge Care's therapeutic support role is to help participants apply strategies set by their own qualified allied health team, OT, speech pathology, physiotherapy, or psychology. We coordinate closely with your existing therapists rather than delivering clinical therapy ourselves.
What this support looks like day to day
Our support workers help carry therapy strategies into daily routines, under the direction of a participant's treating therapist.
- Practising communication strategies from a speech pathologist during daily activities
- Reinforcing sensory or motor strategies from an occupational therapist at home
- Supporting exercise or mobility routines set by a physiotherapist
- Applying behaviour support strategies from a psychologist or behaviour support practitioner
- Reporting back to the treating therapist on how strategies are working day to day
Why the link between therapy and daily life matters
Therapists set strategies, but they're rarely present for the moments those strategies actually need to be used, getting dressed, managing frustration, navigating a social situation. A support worker who knows the plan and applies it consistently is often what makes a strategy stick rather than stay theoretical.
We ask for direct guidance from your therapy team wherever possible, rather than working only from written reports, so what happens day to day matches what's happening in the clinic.
How this fits with your other supports
Therapeutic support assistance often overlaps with daily living support, community participation, or behaviour support, since the same support worker helping with a morning routine might also be reinforcing an OT's fine motor strategy at the same time.
Why choose Aussie Bridge Care
- Support workers briefed directly by your treating therapists wherever possible
- Consistent staff, so strategies are applied the same way, session to session
- Clear communication back to your allied health team and support coordinator
- 20+ years of community support experience across Brisbane and South East Queensland
Funding therapeutic support assistance
This support is generally funded under Capacity Building, alongside the Improved Daily Living, Improved Relationships, or Improved Health and Wellbeing categories that fund your actual therapy sessions. We can help clarify which line covers what with your plan manager or support coordinator.
Getting started if you don't yet have a therapist
If you don't currently have an allied health professional involved, that's not a barrier to reaching out, we can talk through your goals and help point you toward the right kind of therapist to start with, OT, speech pathology, psychology, or physiotherapy, depending on what you're trying to achieve.
Once a therapy plan exists, we can begin coordinating support around it. Without an existing strategy to reinforce, there's little for a support worker to consistently apply, so the therapy relationship comes first.
Problems Faced by NDIS Participants
A common frustration is the gap between what happens in a therapy session and what actually gets practised at home, a strategy set by a therapist doesn't get reinforced consistently, so progress stalls. Coordinating between a therapist, a support worker, and a family, none of whom are talking to each other, adds to the burden rather than easing it.
How We Solve This & How Active We Are
We coordinate directly with a participant's existing therapy team wherever possible, getting guidance straight from the treating therapist rather than relying only on written reports. Our support workers apply strategies consistently across Brisbane and South East Queensland, and we report back to the therapy team on how things are working day to day, closing the loop that often gets left open.
Getting started
If you already have a therapy team and want consistent support carrying their strategies into daily life, get in touch and we'll talk about how to coordinate the two.
